About the Artist

A Heritage in creating cool brand concepts, creative direction, and custom illustration led Sam Smith to create her secret illustration studio in 1999. Operating by word of mouth, Sam produces custom artwork, ltd edition prints, and creative concepts for private clients and brands alike, and maintains an ongoing waiting list for her bespoke illustrated portraits and time capsules.

Clientele spans London, New York, Paris, Brussels and Los Angeles, and includes fashion brands, fashion designers, entrepreneurs, musicians, authors and more.

Sam is formally educated with a Batchelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Fashion Promotion and Illustration from The Surrey Institute of Art & Design, University for the Creative Arts, Accessory Design from Parsons, The New School, New York, she has diplomas in color therapy and has studied color with the Museum of Modern Art, New York City.

She once, almost nearly, did a job swop with Banksy.  Her task was to paint pink hearts over London.  His was to spend her creative budget for Diesel jeans.  Sadly, all plans were scuppered in the name of sensibility from above.  She has since learned never to trust sensibility from above and credits this philosophy with some of her greatest personal and professional achievements.

Formerly based in London, and known as Sam Newman, she now lives and works in New York as Sam Smith.
